Conviasa Airlines has officially resumed flights into Dominica. The Venezuelan based airline which recommenced flights not only in Dominica but St Vincent and the Grenadines is expected to fly into the island twice a week; every Tuesday and Thursday.
Honourable Minister for Civil Aviation, Rayburn Blackmoore, says the airline has been given a one month route license in the first instance which may be followed by a three year license.
Honourable Blackmoore believes that this is a major plus for Dominica.
“I have been so advised that they will do Venezuela, Trinidad, Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines and into Dominica which is of course, a major plus for us in Dominica.”
Honourable Blackmoore says the Government is seeking to establish same day connections into Dominica from the major cities across the world.

This he believes will have a tremendous impact on Dominica’s economy.
“The issue of spending one hundred and sixteen million dollars (XCD$116 000 000.00) on the airport to improve the airport facilities to facilitate same day connections including night landing, to us, is setting the pace for Dominica’s advancement. I think if we are to attract move activities at the airport, that in itself, is going to have a positive impact on the economy and many persons including the hotel industry, taxi operators, to name a few will benefit. It will be a major boost for the economy from a global standpoint.”
A welcome ceremony was held at the Melville Hall Airport on Thursday to officially welcome the airline. |
