Foreign Affairs Minister of the Kingdom of Morocco Taieb Fassi Fihri is currently in Dominica seeking to strengthen ties between the two countries. Dominica established diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Morocco in June 2010.

On Monday 10th August, the Foreign Affairs Minister of Morocco met with the Hon. Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, Hon. Minister for Employment and Trade, Dr. Colin McIntyre and Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sen. Alvin Bernard.
According to Hon. Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, this visit by the Moroccan delegation is in reciprocation to his official visit to Morocco in June of 2010. Prime Minister Skerrit explained the purpose of the establishment of such ties.
“It speaks to my Government’s commitment to broadening our diplomatic relationship and presence in many parts of the world as possible. We believe that in a globalised world, it is very important that we establish relations with all countries as possible because in many respects, though we are different in size, we can share some of the same challenges.”
Prime Minister Skerrit went on to say that the issues of poverty and climate change affect us all and that no one country, on its own, can bring resolution.
“...the issue of climate change – how do we work together to ensure that the developing world is given the kind of attention that is required in order that whatever commitments were that were given towards addressing the issues of climate change ... and in fighting poverty, how do we work together to fight it at the United Nations level to foster a greater spirit of peace and prosperity in every part of the world.”
Foreign Affairs Minister of Morocco, Taieb Fassi Fihri, said that he is happy that his country has established diplomatic relations with Dominica.
“We are very satisfied because it is important for my country to diversify its cooperation not only inside Africa or among Arab brothers or due to our localisation with European Union. It is important for Morocco to establish this cooperation to on the good basis and to invest in people and to invest in this specific relation between the people of Dominica and the people of Morocco.”
Minister Fihri said he is looking ahead to the strengthening of relations with Dominica.
“During the visit of His Excellency to Morocco, we published a statement which is, I think, a good statement opening large opportunities to cooperate at the political level. His Majesty insists that we go quickly ahead with cementing this relations that we can identify some sectors for cooperation. I am sure that in this framework, after this normalisation of establishing diplomatic relations, we can look to the future with an optimistic approach to bring concrete action at the bilateral level”
The delegation is set to leave Dominica by the end of the week. |
